Radiology
Radiology is an integral part of diagnosing many orthopedic problems. OAK Orthopedics maintains on-site Radiology departments at all OAK locations, staffed with Licensed Radiologic Technologists. To provide prompt results and treatment our physicians have immediate access to the X-Rays.  
 
Some orthopedic conditions, however, are not well defined on X-Ray alone and some are not visible on X-Ray at all. Magnetic Resonance Imaging also aids our health care professionals in making an accurate diagnosis. Realizing the importance of utilizing these state-of-the-art technologies, we provide these on-site Diagnostic Imaging Services: 

Extremity MRI
Designed specifically for extremity imaging, Extremity MRI provides non-claustrophobic MRI services quickly and conveniently at the OAK-Bradley and OAK-Frankfort locations.

The patient's body is located outside the scanner, with just the arm or leg being studied inserted in the magnet. The high tissue contrast and advanced system features provide superior orthopedic images.

This revolutionary MRI design provides a stress-free examination. The patient can read, sleep, or converse with the radiographer during the study. Unlike whole-body systems, extremity MRI is virtually silent, making the examination a pleasant experience and produces highly diagnostic images. 
 
Open MRI
For the comfort of our patients, OAK offers Open MRI on-site. We can now increase the comfort of patients needing MRI of extremities as well as other areas of the body.  Open MRI allows our claustrophobic and larger patients access to this technology conveniently in our OAK-Bradley Office.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging continues to be an increasingly important diagnostic tool - and the fact that it is non-invasive and uses magnets rather than radioactivity makes it one of the safest.  This stress-free testing environment provides images of high quality and does not sacrifice quality.

The Tool for Detecting and Managing Low Bone Density & Body Composition

The DEXA (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) scan is the model for Bone Density and Body Composition.  DEXA uses a whole body scanner that has two low dose x-rays at different sources that can read Bone Mass, Fat Mass and Lean Mass.  DEXA has become  the "Gold Standard" because it provides a higher degree of precision in only one measurement and has the ability to show exactly where changes in bone density and body fat is distributed throughout the body.  The scan is precise, non-invasive, accurate and reliable.
  • Osteoporosis is a major public health threat for 44 million Americans (68 percent are women).   Early detection can lead to effective treatment. 
  • In the United States today, 10 million individuals already have osteoporosis, and 34 million more have low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for this disease.
  • One out of every two women and one in four men over 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in his or her lifetime. 
  • More than two million American men suffer from osteoporosis, and millions more are at risk. Each year, 80,000 men have a hip fracture and one-third of these men die within a year.

  • Osteoporosis is responsible for more than 1.5 million fractures annually, including 300,000 hip fractures, approximately 700,000 vertebral fractures, 250,000 wrist fractures, and more than 300,000 fractures at other sites.
